What is a doula, and why do I need one?

The word “doula” comes from a Greek word meaning “woman’s servant”.
Doulas are trained, non-medical professionals who provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to women before, during and after childbirth, to facilitate the best possible birth experience.

A doula’s main role is to encourage self-confidence in women who are giving birth by supporting her and her partner with information, practical tools and emotional care during pregnancy, labour, birth and the post-partum period. A doula will support a woman in whatever way empowers her to have the best possible experience she can. This support is provided unconditionally and without bias and has the best interests of the mother in mind at all times.

How I support you as your doula will be unique to you and each package is customised to suit your specific needs and the outcomes that you wish for. Birth is such an unpredictable and ever-changing landscape and no-one can ever know what to expect. My focus is on preparing you for all eventualities and for you to feel in control and confident every step of the way. About Me

I am a proud, earth loving Mumma to three beautiful grown-up children, all born at home. I am a fully certified birth and post-partum doula, I am the owner and developer of Serene Cream Natural Body Products and I have a keen interest in all things aromatherapy, reiki, massage and healing and many other aspects of natural health. I am currently training with the Australian Breastfeeding Association as a breastfeeding counsellor.
I am deeply passionate about bringing children into the world in the gentlest way possible and strongly believe that how our babies experience their birth and their early days and weeks can have a huge impact on their future and their view of the world. It is an equally profound experience for the birthing woman and I hope to support and nurture each woman to have the most empowering birthing experience possible.
